A lecture at University of Malaya on 23. October will be the venue for the first public release of a 15 month study of changing concepts and attitudes towards the trust and authority of scholarlship, in particular the impact of open access, search engines and social media on traditional reading, citation and publishing. Professor Nicholas will be in Kuala Lumpur at the Computation & Informatics Research Cluster (C+i) with Hamid Jamali who will give a lecture on 24 October on the subject of Information Behaviour Research. In recent years Human information behavior(HIB) and some other research areas such as human-computer interaction, information retrieval and social informatics have joined together and a new field of human-information interaction has emerged. Dr. Jamali will talk about the application of HIB studies and the new trend of moving towards Human-Information Interaction (HII) in some of the studies.

On Friday 25 October Prof. Nicholas and Dr Jamali will be joined by Dr A.N.Zainab in a presentation to members of the department of Library and Information Science on the subject of Publishing your Research.

Sharing digital content by email, internal networks, cloud services, or social networks is now widespread. Working with COUNTER and a team from the University of Tennessee, CIBER will be developing altmetrics to measure this secondary sharing of digital content.

Northumbrian iSchool

David Nicholas has been appointed part-time Professor in Information Science in the Department of Mathematics and Information Sciences at Northumbria University from 1st September 2013. Together with Professor Michael Moss, previously of the University of Glasgow, he will help the newly formed iSchool develop a research strategy and programme.

Smartphone and tablet are set to become the main platform for searching the Web and yet our knowledge of how mobile consumers use information, especially scholarly information, is imperfect.
